“Can you tell me,” said an undergraduate to his tutor, who was great at Ecclesiastical Law, “whether the Pope would be allowed to bury the Archbishop of Canterbury?” As some slight stress was laid on the syllables Canterbury, the tutor for a moment suspected some trick, but being assured that it was quite a serious question, promised to consider the point.
