An Arab came to the river side,
With a donkey bearing an obelisk;
But he did not venture to ford the tide,
For he had to good an ass to risk (asterisk).
So he camped all night by that river side,
Secure till the tide had ceased to swell,
For he knew that whenever the donkey died,
No other could be its parallel (‖).
