KNITTED TWIST SHELL

SIZES: 12, 14, 16

Materials Required:

AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY “DAWN” KNITTING WORSTED
2 (2, 3) skeins Amber
1 skein Cocoa (all sizes)

1 Pr. Knitting Needles No. 9 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLE WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW

Plastic Crochet Hook Size 7

GAUGE: 9 sts = 2 inches

Directions are given for Size 12. Changes for Sizes 14 and 16 are given in parentheses.

BACK: With Amber cast on 80 (86, 92) sts, K 8 rows. START PATTERN: 1st ROW: K 1, * y o (bring yarn to front, then over needle), sl 1 as if to P, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row ending with K 1. 2nd ROW: K 1, * y o, sl 1 as if to P, K the y o of previous row and next st tog, repeat from * across row, ending with K 1. 3rd ROW: K 1, * K 1, K the y o and leave on needle, then K st before y o, slip both sts off needle, repeat from * across row ending with K 1. Repeat last 3 rows for pattern throughout. Work even in pattern until back measures 12 inches from beg or length desired to underarm. SHAPE ARMHOLES: Bind off 3 sts (all sizes) at beg of next 4 rows. Work in pattern until armholes measure 6 (6½, 7) inches from beg. SHAPE SHOULDERS: Bind off 4 (4, 5) sts at beg of next 2 rows, bind off 4 (5, 5) sts at beg of next 2 rows; then bind off 4 (5, 6) sts at beg of next 2 rows. P across remaining 44 (46, 48) sts for neck hem ridge. Starting with a P row work 4 rows in stockinette st (P 1 row, K 1 row) inc 1 st at each end every row, bind off loosely.

FRONT: Work same as back.

FINISHING: Block and steam each section. Sew side and shoulder seams. Turn neck facing under at hemline and sew in place. With Cocoa work a row of s c around neck edge and armholes.

POMPONS: (Work 28) Wind Cocoa 20 times over a 1½ inch cardboard, slip from cardboard, tie at center, cut each end; trim into shape. Attach pompons around lower edge as illustrated. Attach Cocoa at st next to a pompon, * ch 8, sl st to a st next to the next pompon, repeat from * around edge.
