Spanish Sauce

2 tablespoons shortening

½ cup chopped onions

1 clove garlic

2½ cups canned tomatoes

2 teaspoons salt

1 bay leaf

8 whole cloves

1 teaspoon chili powder

2 teaspoons sugar

1 teaspoon celery seed

Melt shortening, add onion and peeled and chopped garlic and cook 5 minutes. Add other ingredients and simmer slowly for about 45 minutes. Strain, reheat and serve hot.
