A NEW TENANT
I watched for her in the night,
I watched for her in the day—
But how could I hope to find her
When her body had gone away?
I spoke to her in the rooms
Where she had been wont to play—
But how could my dearest answer
When her body had gone away?
I searched for her in my heart,
And when it unfroze to pray,
I knew that we shared one mortal house
Since hers had resolved to clay.
