THE JACKAL AND THE CROCODILE
Verses.—In the original they are—
Gâdar, ghar kyâ lâyâ?
Kyâ chîz kamâyâ?
Ki merâ khâtir pâyâ.
Jackal, what hast thou brought home?
What thing hast thou earned?
That I may obtain my wants.
The story has a parallel in most Indian collections, and two in Uncle Remus, in the stories of 'The Rabbit and the Wolf' and of 'The Terrapin and the Rabbit.'
