Newport to Ross.—A splendid road; at Chepstow a hill 1 in 12.
At Whitchurch a dangerous hill, 1 in 10, with poor surface.
After passing Goodrich the Wye is crossed by Kerne Bridge, where a toll is charged for motor-cars.
Ross to Gloucester.—Very good; no stiff gradients.
