There was once a nest in a hollow;
Down in the mosses and knot-grass pressed,
Soft and warm, and full to the brim.
MAY 19th.
"Good night!" said the hen, when her supper was done,
To Fanny who stood in the door,
"Good night," answered she, "come back in the morn,
And you and your chicks shall have more."
MAY 20th.
There's a merry brown thrush sitting up in the tree,
"He's singing to me! He's singing to me!"
And what does he say, little girl, little boy?
"Oh, the world's running over with joy."
