Minor spelling inconsistencies (e.g. alleyway/alley-way, gold dust/gold-dust, etc.) have been preserved.
Alterations to the text:
Formatting: abandon the use of drop-caps.
Punctuation: quotation mark pairings/nestings and missing commas.
