Regimental and other Badges.—"The White Rose" (of York) in the Regulations. Also a special device on various appointments—"H.R.H. the Princess of Wales's Cypher and Coronet, combined with a Cross"; on the cross, 1875.

Nicknames.—"The Green Howards," "Howard's Garbage," or "Howard's Greens," from its facings and Colonel's name (1738-48); also "The Bounders."

Notes.—Raised from independent companies of pikemen and musketeers in Devonshire.
