The hickory-nut nurse has a hard, hard face
But a heart that is tender and true;
She could not change her looks, you know,
And neither can I, or you.
But we can be helpful and kind and good
To all whom we meet and know,
So they never will think of our looks at all,
But of the goodness that lies below.
