CHRISTMAS-TIME.
Tis Christmas time!—the joyous time,
When, loud from belfry towers, the chime
Of merry bells, so glad and gay,
Proclaim the holy Christmas-day.
The church is decked with holly bright,
Each face is beaming with delight,
And mourners put their grief away
Upon the joyful Christmas-day.
’Tis Christmas-day, that brings to each
Something to learn, something to teach;
Something to do, if understood:
All have their mission here for good.
Good will to man and peace on earth:
Rejoice with pure and guileless mirth,
And highest praises to Him pay,
Through whom we have our Christmas-day.
Give with free hand, our choicest store
To all who need, to old and poor;
With friends rejoice, with children play,
Make happy all our Christmas-day.
Nor let the common thought appear,
That Christmas comes but once a year;
And till next year has passed away,
Let it be ever Christmas-day.
