The great field of realistic fiction will later open up to the boy, but he must be in no hurry to enter it. When he does enter it, however, see that he selects well, and urge him to read in moderation. He might well start with such books as "David Copperfield" and "The Mill on the Floss," leaving Thackeray untouched for a few years until he can better appreciate him. With a taste once formed for any one of these great novelists, he will stand in little danger from the almost countless current stories that are always getting in his way.
