Obvious typographical errors and punctuation errors have been corrected after careful comparison with other occurrences within the text and consultation of external sources.
Except for those changes noted below, all misspellings in the text, and inconsistent or archaic usage, have been retained. For example, War Office, War-Office; field marshal, field-marshal; outpost, out-post; situate; patrole; rencounter; piquet; negociating.
[Pg 94], 'St. Jao de Presquere' should really be 'São João da Pesqueira' but has not been changed in the etext.
[Pg 99] et seq., the old name 'Pampeluna' (Pamplona) has not been changed in the etext.
[Pg 110], Sidenote '1816' moved one paragraph lower.
