36. Ubi eadem ratio, ibi idem jus.
This is the complement of the maxim, Cessante ratione legis, cessat lex ipsa. A rule of the common law should be extended to all cases to which the same ratio applies, and in the case of imperfect statute law extensive interpretation based on the ratio legis is permissible.
