Inscriptions on the north side are difficult to photograph, because the sun shines around here only a couple of hours per day during the summer. Here is the only poem on the rock:
The poem, of course does not rhyme when translated into English.
“Here arrived the Señor and Governor
Don Francisco Manuel de Silva Nieto
Whose indubitable arm and valor
Have overcome the impossible
With the wagons of the King our Lord
A thing which he alone put into this effect
August 5, 1629 that one may well to Zuñi
pass and carry the faith.”
