Us for a moment brief only suppose
One man alone, one sentient being, set
In utter nothingness, with nought to fret
Or to disturb the silence and repose—
He could not even know he lived at all!
'Tis moving contact that to each one shows
He has existence. If stark darkness fall,
One cannot feel his hand without some motion small.
