Friendship.
Once we were the best of friends,
I was happy and light hearted:
Now from some unknown cause,
That friendship has departed.
We’ve strolled oft at Lakeside Park,
And watched the green leaves quiver,
We’ve said many tender things,
We’ll say no more forever.
Oh, friendship thou art but a name,
A few words warmly spoken,
A few promises lightly made,
To be as lightly broken.
The time will come and maybe soon,
You’ll see you were mistaken,
And long again for the friendship true,
Of one you have forsaken.
You think my heart is cold and proud,
You doubted love when strongest.
In future you will live to learn,
Proud hearts can love the longest.
Timmie.
