This office was founded by the leading Merchants of London in the year 1717, and was incorporated by Charters of His Majesty George the First, dated the 22nd June, 1720, and the 29th April, 1721, respectively, for granting SEA, FIRE, AND LIFE ASSURANCES. The powers conferred by these Charters have been confirmed by Special Acts of Parliament.

Persons assured with this Corporation incur no mutual Liability as Partners, nor do they depend upon an uncertain Fund; the large invested Capital-Stock of the Corporation affords unquestionable Security for the fulfilment of its engagements.
