SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
Heath, with beardless tips just within the blossom; flowers by fours, pressed together, nearly globular, whitish, and downy, covered by a large woolly cup; leaves by threes, wedge-shaped, and woolly; stem weak, thread-shaped, and woolly.
DESCRIPTION.
Stem upright, weak, thread-shaped, and brownish, a foot and a half high; the small and large branches are numerous, weak, and downy.
Leaves by threes, wedge-shaped, flat on their upper surface, rolled back at the edges, and woolly.
Flowers terminate the extremity of the branches by fours, pressed together, are nodding and spreading, with very short footstalks.
Empalement. Cup double; the outer three-leaved, the inner four-leaved; the leaflets are ovate, concave, and turned inwards, covered by a thick wool, and pressed to the blossom.
Blossom nearly globular, whitish, woolly, and nearly hid within the cup.
Chives. Eight hair-like threads, inserted into the receptacle; tips beardless, and just without the blossom.
Pointal. Seed-bud turban-shaped, woolly on the upper part. Shaft thread-shaped. Summit four-cornered.
