SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
Heath, with beardless tips just without the blossom; flowers terminal, by threes, of a pale purple, nodding; stem upright; leaves by threes, upright, and channelled.
DESCRIPTION.
Stem shrubby, upright, and rusty; the larger and smaller branches are whorled, and numerous.
Leaves by threes, upright, blunt, flat on the upper surface, and channelled beneath.
Flowers terminate the ends of the smaller branches, mostly by threes, hanging down; footstalks long, and coloured, with three floral leaves pressed to them.
Empalement. Cup four-leaved; leaflets are ovate, coloured, and pressed to the blossom.
Blossom bell-shaped, and of a pale purple; segments of the border are egg-shaped, and sharp-pointed.
Chives. Eight hair-like threads; tips beardless, and just without the blossom.
Pointal. Seed-bud turban-shaped, furrowed, with honey-cups at their base. Shaft thread-shaped. Summit four-cornered.
