I these record to put to shame
The drabs who claim the Irish name,
But lack that generous Irish heart
Which ever with the free takes part,—
Detests the traitor and the knave,
And loathes and spurns the willing slave:
Nor would I recognise the base
As appertaining to the race,
Did I not know they were abused
By demagogues, and thus misused;
