As if a man who is attacked,
Must first be all to pieces hacked,
And have his breath suspended too,
Before he anything can do,
To strike for life in self-defense;
Or dare to use what common sense
Dictates, and every man concedes,
“Necessity all law exceeds;”
And thus where danger is extreme,
Becomes itself the law supreme.
