When lo! a griffin black rush’d from his lair,
Pounced with his talons on th’ affrighted fair,
And bore her far away! the giants’ scream of joy
Re-echoed from the rocks to welcome their decoy!
The Disa then too late her error found,
And wept: the winds with zeal and love intense
Waft down her tears to Ocean’s caves profound,
And there to pearls those precious drops condense.
