With mind reluctant hitherto have I
A strain interpreted of presage dire,
The world’s destruction, and the Asar’s fall.
But listen now to a more pleasing theme,
The hope and consolation that ensue!
From ocean’s depth a new-form’d earth shall spring!
The azure wave reflect the new-spun grass!
Again adown the rock the cataract fall,
O’er which clouds fleeting pass, and eagles soar!
