Roumania’s crude oil production for the past fifty years is given in the following table in barrels of 42 gallons (seven to the ton). The officially recorded output goes back as far as 1857, when the twelve months’ yield was just under 2,000 barrels. During 1861, the production passed the 10,000 barrel mark for the first time, and six years later reached 50,000 barrels for the year. The figures are as under—
