AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY “DAWN” KNITTING WORSTED
9 skeins White
Plastic Crochet Hook Size J OR ANY SIZE HOOK WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW
GAUGE: 1 flower motif = 2½ inches in diameter
NOTE: Dress is started at lower edge and worked in circular strips to underarm. Remaining strips are then divided for armholes and bodice.
1st STRIP: Ch 4, join to form a loop, * ch 3, 1 d c, ch 3, sl st in loop (this is one petal), repeat from * twice, 3 petal group, ** ch 11, turn ch, sl st in 4th ch from hook to form a loop, turn, and work a 3 petal group in loop, repeat from ** 16 times (18 petal groups). Working on other side of strip, work 3 more petals in same loop, * ch 7, sl st in loop of next 3 petal group, work 3 petals in same loop, repeat from * across entire strip (this strip forms 18 flower motifs) ch 7, join with sl st between 2 center petals of flower motif at opposite end taking care not to twist strip, ch 7, join in same space on 1st flower motif. 2nd ROUND: Sl st to top of petal, ch 1, s c in d c of 1st petal, * ch 5, s c in d c of next petal, ch 5, s c in d c of next petal, work 5 d c in center st of loop between petals, drop loop from hook, insert hook in 1st d c, pick up loop and pull through (popcorn), 1 s c in d c of next petal, repeat from * across row ending with a popcorn, join in 1st s c of round, cut yarn. Attach yarn in d c of any 1st petal on opposite side of strip and work same as 1st side, cut yarn. 2nd STRIP: Work same as 1st strip completing only one side of popcorn sts, cut yarn. To join to 1st strip; attach yarn in d c of any 1st petal of 2nd strip, * ch 2, sl st in center ch of ch 5 loop of 1st strip, ch 2, s c in next petal, ch 2, sl st in center st between next 2 petals of 1st strip, ch 2, s c in next petal, popcorn st in center st of ch 7 loop between motifs, s c in next petal, repeat from 1st * of joining across row ending to correspond. Repeat 2nd strip 11 times.
BACK BODICE: Work 7 motifs but do not connect strip and work as follows: sl st in each of 1st 3 chs on 1st motif, s c in d c of 1st petal, * ch 5, s c in d c of next petal, ch 5, s c in d c of next petal, popcorn in 4th ch of ch 7 loop, s c in d c of next petal, repeat from * across one side ending to correspond, ch 5, and join 2nd side of strip to dress. Work and join 2 strips more in same manner.
FRONT BODICE: Skip 2 motifs on each side of dress for armholes. Work and join 2 strips of 7 motifs same as back. Work and join 1 strip of 2 motifs on each side for shoulders attaching to front and back bodice of strip, leaving 3 center motifs free on front and 3 center motifs free on back for neckline.
NECK: Attach yarn at shoulder seam, * ch 1, sl st, ch 1, sl st in next loop, repeat from * around neckline, join in 1st ch. NEXT ROW: Ch 1, * skip sl st, s c in next ch, repeat from * all around. NEXT 2 ROUNDS: Work 1 s c in each st, join, cut yarn.
SLEEVES: Work 3 strips of 8 motifs same as dress for each sleeve. SHAPE SLEEVES: Work 1 strip of 6 motifs, attach to sleeve section leaving 1 motif free at each end for underarm. Work one strip of 4 motifs and attach to sleeve as follows: s c in 1st petal, ch 2, pick up center ch of 1st ch 5 loop on sleeve (of 1st motif), pull yarn through, pick up center ch of next ch 5 loop, pull yarn through, pick up center ch of next ch 5 loop, pull yarn through, yarn over and pull through all loops on hook, ch 2, s c in center of next petal, then join as before and end to correspond.
