"Here I am, and here is Mrs. Lincoln, and that's the long and short of it."—Speech of Mr. Lincoln from the balcony of the White House at Washington.
A Handy Faculty.
Whilst Uncle Abe was passing, in his flat-boat, a small town on the Wabash, an old chum accosted him from shore thus:—
"Uncle Abe, are you asleep?"
"Why?"
"Because, I want to borrow some whiskey."
"Then" said Abe, "I am asleep."
And he rolled over drowsily on the flat-boat, and it passed on.
