Heracles.

I.

Genius of labor, mighty Heracles!

Though bound by fate to do another’s will,

Not basely, as a slave, dost thou fulfil

The appointed task. The eye of God to please

Thou seekest, and man to bless, and not thy ease.

So to thy wearying toil thou addest still

New labors, to redeem some soul from ill,

Performing all thy generous mind conceives.
