Punctuation, hyphenation, and spelling were made consistent when a predominant preference was found in the original book; otherwise they were not changed.
Simple typographical errors were corrected; unbalanced quotation marks were remedied when the change was obvious, and otherwise left unbalanced.
Inconsistent use of small-caps in the “Subjects” (Table of Contents) has been retained here.
Misspelled French words were not corrected.
Photographs of the buildings usually are just above the chapters referring to them, and the Table of Subjects refers to the chapters, not to the photographs. However, the hyperlinks in the Table of Subjects lead to the photographs.
