2. Description of the Philippines by Chao Ju-kua.—This is retranslated into English from the Spanish translation by F. Blumentritt of the fortieth chapter of Chao Ju-kua’s Chu-fan-chih, which was translated from the Chinese by F. Hirth. Our translation is made from the version published by Clemente J. Zulueta, in Periódico Hebdomario Escolar (a students’ paper of Manila), for November 9, 1901, as the English version was not available.
