At his beddes hed
Twenty bokes clothed in blake or red
Of Aristotle and his philosophie
Than robes riche, fidel or sautrie,
For al be that he was a philosopher
Yet hadde he but litel gold in coffor,
And all that he might of his frendes hente
On bokes and on learning he it spente,
And besily gan for the soules praie
