Sir John Carr (1772-1832), a native of Devonshire, and a barrister of the Middle Temple, was knighted by the Duke of Bedford as Viceroy of Ireland about 1807. He published

(1809). But he is best known by his travels, which gained him the nickname of "Jaunting Carr," and considerable profit.
