From Rebhun’s ‘Susanna,’ Act III, Sc. 4: Having been menaced with death by the wanton judges, Susanna tells her father, mother, and sister of the infamous plot.[62]

[62.] Paul Rebhun, who died in 1546, was a Lutheran schoolmaster and pastor. In his Susanna he essayed a more regular and varied versification than that of the ordinary Knittelvers. The apocryphal story of Susanna was in high favor with the Protestant playwrights on account of its vindication of a chaste wife.
