From ‘Grobianus’[12]: How to behave at table.
[12.] The German Grobianus (1551), by Casper Scheit, is a translation of a Latin satire by Dedekind (1549) which tells how to attain perfection in bad manners—how to become a perfect boor. ‘Grobian’ is the polar opposite of ‘gentleman.’
Will jemandt mit zu taffel sitzen,
[13.] Spitzen; sich spitzen (with zu) means to ‘set one’s heart on,’ here perhaps ‘go for.’
[14.] Zelt = gezählt.
