By a General Order, dated 29th July, 1815, H.R.H. the Prince Regent was pleased to approve of the 1st Regt. of Foot Guards being made a regt. of Grenadiers, and styled “The 1st, or Grenadier, Regt. of Foot Guards” in commemoration of their having defeated the Grenadiers of the French Imperial Guards at Waterloo.
