“I shall be busy to-morrow; I’m engaged all day.”
“How about to-morrow night?”
“I’m not free then either.”
A frown settled on the man’s face.
“Damn it ...” he began disgustedly. She continued to smile pleasantly but offered no suggestion.
“Well, I’ll see you in New York some time soon,” he asserted finally; “I have to go up there once in awhile.”
“Yes, do that,” Jeannette said without enthusiasm.
“I’ll ’phone you? I’ll give you a ring at the office.”
“Yes, do that,” she repeated.
“Well, then, I guess I’d better say good-night.”
