Judge of the world, leader ... powerful one,

Thou impartest counsel, lord of the gods.

Among the gods superior is thy counsel.

Reading these words, one hears again the voice of the great prophet of the Babylonian exile. He seems to scoff at this feature of polytheism, just as elsewhere he scoffs at idolatry:

Who hath directed the spirit of Yahwe,

And as a counsellor hath taught him,
