Portuguese total unascertainable; the casualties of 2nd Sorauren and Beunza, fought on the same day, being lumped together in the return at 1,120. But at 2nd Sorauren they were fairly light: from the fact that Stubbs’s Portuguese brigade had 6 officer-casualties this day, Lecor’s 4, and Madden’s 3, it might be guessed that the ‘other ranks’ casualties may have been about 300 in all.

Portuguese losses heavy. Ashworth’s brigade had 12 officer-casualties, Da Costa’s 18; this at the usual rate should mean about 600 casualties of all ranks.
