David Lloyd (born 1597, died 7th September 1663) was the son of David Lloyd of Llanidloes, Montgomery. He was educated at Oxford, and took orders about 1628. Dr. Lloyd was chaplain to the Earl of Derby, and held several benefices in Wales, and in 1660 was made Dean of St. Asaph. He wrote a well-known book called The Legend of Captain Jones, which was published in London in 1631. This remarkable work went through several editions, many of which were curiously added to and altered by successive editors or re-writers.
