1. Images have been moved from the middle of a paragraph to the closest paragraph break.

2. A few typographical errors have been corrected. They have been marked in the text with popups. Position mouse over the line to see an explanation.

3. In the List of Illustrations, the page number for "Descent from Cross" is corrected to 163 (original text is 165).

4. Other than the corrections listed above, printer's inconsistencies in spelling, punctuation, hyphenation, and ligature usage have been retained.
