The author, in addition, has most painstakingly searched mediæval literature and the records of contemporary art for references to and descriptions of the instruments dealt with, and it is believed that the account here given of them is as complete as it is possible to make it.
The book is most generously illustrated and carefully indexed by the editor. No pains have been spared to secure drawings or photographs of practically every type mentioned.
