6 And his forwandered steed to him got:

There they dismounting, drew their weapons bold
2 And stoutly came vnto the Castle gate;
Whereas no gate they found, them to withhold,
4 Nor ward to wait at morne and euening late,
But in the Porch, that did them sore amate,
6 A flaming fire, ymixt with smouldry smoke,
And stinking Sulphure, that with griesly hate
8 And dreadfull horrour did all entraunce choke,
Enforced them their forward footing to reuoke.
