<hw>Sphenura</hw>, <i>n</i>. scientific name for a genus of Australian birds called the <i>Bristle-Birds</i> (q.v.). From Grk. <i>sphaen</i>, "a wedge," and <i>'oura</i>, "a tail." The name was given by Sir Frederick McCoy.
