"Let go of my collar!" was all I replied.
"Not a bit of it."
"Yes, you will."
And with a twist I pulled myself loose.
"Police!" he called loudly.
"Keep quiet," said I, "I'm not going to run away."
"Oh-ho! So you've had enough of it," he exclaimed in derision.
"Never mind what I've had. I am not going to run away, that's all."
"Seems to me you are getting mighty independent," he sneered.
"I have a right to be."
