The work, when finished, should be mounted on a frame of millboard, with a cord to correspond at the seams, and a rouleau of shaded grey wool round the opening.

KNITTING. [No. 13].

Materials—6 ounces each of Black, Magenta, Green, Mauve, and Amber 12-ply Fleecy; a pair of short Knitting Pins, No. 1; and for the Joining, Tricot Needle, No. 5.

Magenta Stripe—Cast on 11 stitches.

1st row—Make 1, knit 4, slip 1, knit 2 together, turn the slipped stitch over the two knitted together, knit 4.

2nd row—Keep the wool in front of the pin and turn it round it, so as to make a stitch, then pearl 10 stitches.

Repeat these 2 rows until 1-1/4 yards or the required length is made. Then, to form the point to correspond with the commencement, make 1, knit 2 together, knit 2, knit 3 together as usual, knit 2, knit 2 together; turn back, make 1, pearl 8; turn back, make 1, knit 2 together, knit 1, knit 3 together, knit 1, knit 2 together; turn back, make 1, pearl 2 together, pearl 2, pearl 2 together; turn back, knit 1, knit 3 together, knit 1; turn back, pearl 3 together, and fasten off.

Work 2 more Magenta stripes, then 2 green, and 2 mauve. The Magenta are for the centre and two ends, the latter being omitted in the engraving for want of space. If required still wider add a green stripe at each end.

Black Stripe—Cast on 3 stitches.
