ROW 3—Ch 1, turn and in back lps, sc in last sc, (ch 1, sc in next sc) 7 times, * (ch 1, sc in both lps of next sc) 22 times. ROW 4—Ch 2, turn, dc in last sc, (2 dc in next sc) 21 times. In back lps, sc in next sc, (ch 1, sc in next sc) 7 times. ROW 5—Repeat Row 3 to *. (Ch 1, 5c in both lps of next 2d dc) 22 times. Repeat Rows 2, 3, 4 and 5 twice and Rows 2 and 3 again.

End—Working across end of rows, ch 3, * (dc in 2 rows) holding back the last lp of each dc on hook, yarn over and pull thru all 3 lps at once for a Cluster, 1 dc in next row. Repeat from * 4 times. Palm—Repeat Rows 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 2, 3 and 4. Repeat Row 3 to *. (Ch, 1, sc in both lps of next 2d dc) 6 times, ch 17, turn, sc in 2d ch st, (ch 1, sc in next 2d ch st) 7 times, (ch 1, sc in both lps of next sc) 6 times, (ch 1, sc in back lp of next sc) 8 times. Continue in pattern as in Rows 3, 4, 5, 2 and 3, being careful to work the 8 sc in each row at wrist in back lps only. * Ch 1, turn, sc in last sc, (ch 1, sc in next sc) 8 times. Repeat from * once. Ch 3, (a 2-dc-Cluster) 8 times around top edge, sl st in 1st Cluster. (Sc in next Cluster) 7 times, join and sew end tog. Sk 1 dc from base of thumb, sc in next dc, * (ch 1, sc in next 2d dc) 15 times. ** Ch 1, turn, sc in last sc, (ch 1, sc in next sc) 15 times. Repeat from ** once. * Ch 2, turn, 1 dc in last sc, (2 dc in next sc) 14 times, 1 dc in end sc. Ch 1, turn, sc in last dc. Repeat from * to *. Sew end of this part of Palm to base of Thumb. Repeat “End” of Back. Lay Back and Palm back-to-back and whip edges tog. leaving wrist open.

Cuff—Make 5 Blocks and join into a straight row, joining ends. On one side, repeat 1st Row of Edge on Cap. Then repeat Rows 2 and 3 of Edge on Scarf. On other side, in White, make 2 sc in each of 2 center lps on one Block, * (1 dc and 1 tr) in next lp, sk half-lp, 1 dtr down in joining of Blocks, sk next half-lp, (1 tr and 1 dc) in next lp, (2 sc in next lp) twice. Repeat from * around and join. Ch 1, sl st in end of one rib on wrist, (ch 1, sc back in next 3d st, ch 1, sl st in end of next rib on wrist) repeated around and fasten off. Steam and press dry thru a cloth. Make 8 Pom Pons and tack around edge of Cuff. Make 2 more and tack lengthwise on center of Back.

Repeat for Left Mitten, turning Thumb and Palm opposite-side-out to reverse thumb.

MATERIALS—Jack Frost Knitting Worsted (4-fold Germantown) in 4-oz. skeins:—6-sks. Red and ½ sk. Variegated Rainbow. Crochet hook size 0. 1-pr. shoulder pads. 1-button. Size 34 to 38. CRAZY DAISY WINDER.

DAISY—Following instructions on page [2], Illustration C, wind Red yarn twice around each spoke of Winder. Cut about 14” long and weave center as in Ill. E, making a 12-petal flower with 2 lps in each petal. Make 164 Daisies for Sweater and 18 for Hood.

BLOCK—Sc in Red thru 2 lps of one petal, * ch 4, dc in 4th ch st from hook, ** ch 3, sl st in same st, sc in same petal, ch 5, hdc in 4th ch st from hook for a p, sc thru 2 lps of next petal, ch 4, hdc in 4th ch st from hook, sc in next petal, ch 4, hdc in 4th ch st from hook, ch 1, sc in next petal. Repeat from * 3 times ending with a sl st in 1st sc. Cut 6” long, thread to a needle and fasten off on back.
