The general use of the pen is so important in the work of a good education, that it has long been desired that the mere art of writing should be rendered easy of acquirement. These books (which may be had together or separately) are found to effect this object completely, and to save incalculable labour to teachers and pupils. On this plan, either Children or Adults may learn Writing in a very short time.
THE SMITH-AND-DOLIER SYSTEM OF PROGRESSIVE DRAWING COPY-BOOKS. Six Subjects, 1s.
THE SMITH-AND-DOLIER WRITING COPY-BOOKS were constructed on a system of progression, the pupil being led step by step, until he had acquired the habit of making a clear and decided stroke with his pen, first between the lines framed to guide it, and then on the plain ruled copy-book, where he had no guide but the eye and a judgment matured by practice. It has long been obvious to those engaged in tuition, that the difficulties in teaching drawing, as in writing, lay in the want of early training; and it is now authoritatively asserted that no great advance can take place in the national taste until elementary drawing is pursued in our national and village schools, simultaneously with the elements of reading and writing. The Smith-and-Dolier System, which has been found so conducive to the acquirement of writing, it is presumed will be found equally so in conveying instruction in elementary drawing.
THE SMITH-AND-DOLIER DURABLE WRITING LEAF, for such preparatory uses of the pen as are too imperfect for record in proper exercise-books, and to supersede the necessity of resorting to the black slate, which is objectionable for writing—slatemanship being one thing, penmanship another; and the latter being in requisition through life. Price 1s. 6d. single; and 3s. double-sized.
