My dear Friend,—How shall I thank you for those two beautiful “Studies” you sent me! I cannot tell you how much I have found in them to enjoy and to admire, and how grateful I am that you should select me as the first to send them to, in advance of the whole musical world, that takes so lively an interest in all you write. That is truly kind of you.
To tell the truth, it is the one in D minor that is my favorite, particularly in that modulation on the seventh, after the long F
, and the return to D minor, passing through C and E flat. But then there is that lively one in F major, which I love more and more each time I play it. And
