She drew a quick, tense breath and a stifled sob escaped her quivering mouth—that warm, yielding little mouth his lips sought now and gained.

She had no longer the strength to resist.

“Sue,” he pleaded, against her lips; “Sue—will—will you be my wife?”

“Tell me you love me,” he insisted.

For an instant he released her.

“Will you?” he pleaded.
